Program description - Dottorato di Ricerca in Economics Management and Statistics

TEACHING ACTIVITIES OF THE PHD IN ECONOMICS, MANAGEMENT AND STATISTICS, ACADEMIC YEAR 2018-2019

The teaching program of the PhD in Economics, Management and Statistics is formally composed of three types of course:
1. Pre-courses
2. Core courses
3. Short courses and seminars.
Between November and December 2018, first year students attended three pre-courses, Mathematics, Statistics and Introductory Econometrics with STATA. All teaching activities counted for 30-35 hours. These courses did not have a final exams.
Between January and June 2019, first year students will have to attend five "core" courses for each curriculum. Each of these courses counts for 30-35 hours. Attendance is compulsory and, at the end of the courses, students have to pass a final exam. In case of failing one exam, students are given the opportunity to repeat the exam (resit). There is a unique resit for each exam. In order to be admitted to the second year, first year students must pass four out of five exams. In case the previous requirement is not satisfied, the student is excluded from the PhD program.
During the academic year, PhD students can attend a number of short courses and seminars related to the three areas of the PhD program (Economics, Management and Statistics) and to the research activities of the instructor. These courses are mainly intended to enlarge the research interests of the students who, in turn, may take advantage of the topics covered in class for her/his PhD thesis.
The short courses do not have a formal final exam, although students will be required to complete an assignment agreed with the instructor.
Please, feel free to contact the PhD Coordinator for any further information about the teaching activities.
